THE HSE

The Health and Safety Executive is a Government agency sponsored by the DWP and is accountable to the Parliamentary Under Secretary (for Work and Pensions). It was set up under the Health and Safety at work Act 1974 (as amended) for the purpose of supporting the Government’s strategic aims and current targets for health and safety at work. It does this by (i)proposing and setting necessary standards for health and safety performance, (ii)securing compliance with those standards, (iii) carrying out relevant research and publishing the results, and (iv) providing an information and advisory service.

The HSE are currently a statutory consultee regarding planning applications.
